Issey Miyake

Issey Miyake is a renowned Japanese fashion designer known for his avant-garde and innovative designs that blend traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern technology. His eponymous fashion label, Issey Miyake, was founded in 1970 and showcases architectural shapes, experimental fabrics, and iconic pleating techniques.Throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s, Miyake explored various ideas and concepts such as sustainability and unisex garments through his Plantation and Permanente lines. His iconic pleating techniques, which took oversized garments that were heat pleated and shrunk, later developed into its own line Pleats Please, which was founded in 1993. Although he passed away in 2022, Miyake’s commitment to pushing boundaries, collaboration, and sustainability continues to live on and inspire the fashion world through his visionary creations.
